Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Manager

Hughes Brothers, in Seward, NE, is in search of our next Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Manager.  The successful candidate will train 1-3 months with the retiring manager.  Responsibilities include but are not limited to: 

*Knowledgeable of a multitude of health, safety regulations and policies with the ability to communicate the requirements effectively and assist the Company with implementation and management;

*Organizes and conducts required state and federal training of employees, maintains documentation of all training;

*Collaborates with HR Dept regarding workers compensation claims, including OSHA 300 log and injury reporting, safety policies and procedures and other employee safety concerns;

*Conducts new employee safety orientation and conducts monthly employee safety meetings;

*Coordinates hazardous waste program including completing all required paperwork and annual reporting requirements;

*Responds to all plant accidents and injuries, conducts accident investigations, acts as company liaison with clinic, hospital and treating providers and transports injured employees to medical facility as needed;

*Maintains respirator program;

*Maintains and distributes Safety Data Sheets;

*Conducts employee forklift training and certification;

*Conducts annual audit of Contingency and required OSHA/EPA plans with Plant Engineer;

*Participates on Joint Safety and Health Committee;

*Escorts outside agencies through the plant during site visits;

*Collaborates with Purchasing Dept regarding PPE, first aid supplies and other safety equipment. 

This position offers a competitive salary based on education and experience, plus a generous benefits package including vacation, personal leave, 401(k), health, dental, vision, life, disability insurance and more.

Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred, and three years’ work experience in a dedicated environmental health and/or safety position or related degree in Occupational Health & Safety.  Excellent communication skills are required, both written and oral, including public presentation ability.  Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office and the ability to quickly learn and utilize other standardized systems. Proven ability to work effectively independently and in team-based situations.  Strong organization skills required.  The position requires the ability to work in a variety of environments: office environment and varying indoor and outdoor environments including extreme heat and cold.  Required to have valid driver’s license and meet insurability standards, ability to attain a forklift license.

Hughes Brothers, in Seward, NE, is accepting applications for future 2nd shift helper positions. The position works 3:30 pm to Midnight, Monday through Friday. This is a bargaining-unit, hourly position. Starting rate of pay is $27.63 per hour, with top being $28.43 after training period. Work performed in factory environment, requires prolonged standing, frequent heavy lifting, reaching, twisting, and bending.
